Just a Taste is a tapas and wine bar in the Commons. Tapas are a Spanish tradition, where one shares a variety of small dishes allowing people to enjoy a wide variety of flavors all in one sitting. The menu varies seasonally, but there are usually around 25-30 tapas to sample. Just a Taste also boasts over 40 wines by the glass and even offers several wine flights, where for around 10 dollars one can sample 4-5 wines. Several of the tapas are vegetarian, making it a good place for groups that contain people with different eating philosophies. While the restaurant, is not known for good service, Michael Thaller was voted best waiter by the readers of the Ithaca times in 2007.

2008-09-02 23:17:27   We are longtime patrons of Just A Taste, and quite honestly we love it there. The food is delicious and consistent. We went last night and had a bit of a wait, but we were fine with that, as there wasn't a single person sitting at the bar, so we sat down to have drinks while we waited. The bartender chose to ignore us, then chose to ignore the three other couples who sat down at the bar after we did. At first I told my husband it wasn't a big deal, she was obviously busy with table orders. However, it seems like she could have at least acknowledged any one of us at the bar by saying that she would be with us in a second. However once table orders were filled she continued to avoid eye contact and run behind the bar into the kitchen. Finally, a guy at the end asked if they could order drinks (it is a bar, after all) - she filled their order (grumpily), and continued to ignore us as well as the other patrons.

Needless to say, we got up and left, and were totally pissed about it. We didn't complain to the manager since it was a packed house and did not want to cause a scene.

I realize sometimes we have bad days, but if you're in customer service - suck it up and do your job. Why should we have to beg a bartender for a drink? It was our impression that SHE was there to serve US. Our mistake. —67.241.22.158

2009-04-08 19:10:46   This restaurant, in general, combines both the worst service in Ithaca and the best food in Ithaca, all in one establishment. The Brussel sprouts are absolutely heaven. However, Do not go to this place with over 4 people. You will not get a table. They only have small tables. Tables will open up and instead of combining them they will give it to two smaller parties below you on the list. They have a policy where if you give them your number they will call you when your table is ready. But in my experience the hostess often does not call you when your table is about to open up and then lies to your face when you try to confront her about it. If you are not present they will drop you to the bottom of the list, and claim that they called you, when they didn't. On several occasions I have had perfect reception and no records of any calls, then they will continue to lie and say that they called you multiple times. —MattHh
