Tioga County, named for the Indian word meaning "at the forks", is a county within New York State located in the center of the Southern Tier of New York. Tioga County contains the Town of Owego, the county seat, and is part of the Binghamton MSA.
Tioga County abuts Tompkins County on its south and southeast including the towns of Berkshire, Candor, Newark Valley, Richford, and Spencer.
Tioga County was founded in 1791, covers 523 square miles, and had a 2000 population of 51,784.
