Price: $20-$30

  • My boys always appreciated the bottomless cup for soda. Not healthy but the break to refill it gave them a little exercise break.
  • Good cause, but my son let me know he prefers a more personalized care package. With treats he actually wants to eat.
  • My daughter informed us that the finals care packages were not healthy enough. So I think that the Student Foundation is trying to find a happy medium
  • My son is the same way, he doesn't drink coffee, and most of the food and snacks in the prepared packages don't appeal to him.
  • My son would eat everything on that list, especially the fruit snacks.

Amazon

  • Now I just did Amazon to send him a big Reeses peanut butter egg that hopefully this year he will not set on his CPU and melt. And a book to read for fun!
  • The other thing that I like to do, although not as personalized, but I order off of Amazon Prime and have them ship to my son in the dorm directly.
  • Yes Amazon prime is the way to go for anything you want to send that you can get from Amazon

  • Did anyone order the snack basket from Campus Market? I got an email on 11/29 that it shipped but my daughter hasn't gotten it yet.
  • This happened to us last year, my son got it on the day he was leaving. We complained and never heard back from them. Now I make my own
  • This will be my one and only experience with that company.
  • I emailed them last night and got a response today!
  • Response:  Good afternoon, Thank you for your inquiry. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. The care packages for this school arrived 12/4/2015 and are available to pickup at the Habitat for Humanity.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Customer Service at 800-847-0751, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm EST
  • I called today and got the same info. This is my last Campus Marketing purchase.

Ideas

  • Hehehe- my care packages always seem to include the things she left behind on her last visit plus the care package items.
  • my care pkgs usually include laundry they forgot
  • We mail a lot of Applebees gift cards.
  • Taco Bell is a staple but I like to change it up sometimes
  • We also pick up local restaurant gift cards when we visit.
  • Two of my daughters favorites are featured on UPnorth deals (like groupon) a lot so that's how I get those.
  • Ours contain left behind items also. Gift cards, study snacks, toothpaste, shampoo, etc
  • I saw a great idea for a girl that was a new purse or bag with spring things like sunglasses, lip gloss, hat. That would be fun!
  • We are big on the Dominos Pizza gift cards since they deliver and Jimmy Johns those you almost have to get at one of their stores. But he has a lot of Applebees and there is Culvers up there now and McDonalds is always good for the road trips home for caffeine purposes!
  • I also ordered a cookie from Rays he can pick up.
  • He seems to always forget 1 thing, my favorite was his glasses.
  • My family traditionally has a cake baked in a lamb shaped mold (Czech) for Easter dinner, so I bake & mail the cake, along with jelly beans, etc. She thought I was silly the first year, but now her friends ask for it wink emoticon
  • I ALWAYS include a small toy. She may not play with it, but the boys on her floor usually do!
  • I try to include a small lego set or Hot Wheel car in my son's boxes.
  • The $10 chocolate chip cookie I sent my son from wads Dinning hall was a great deal.
  • I sent a case of girl scout cookies- about as much nutritional value as the preordered care packages
  • Mid-Term & Finals Package - Trader Joe's assortment of Espresso Pillows, Dark Chocolate Cocoa Nibs, Gingermints, Cinnamon Gum... And a fun squishy/throwable toy for stress relief :)   I think this was the favorite package ever, she's mentioned a couple times how wonderful it was! I try to choose things that are back-packable.
  • Books to read about the UP

How to Mail

  • USPS has boxes. One flat rate no matter how much you fit in the box. I use those
  •  I'm amazed at how much I can pack into the smallest priority mail.
  • we do USPS as well, couple times we did UPS but that was more costly.
  • USPS works real good and has tracking #s -- from TC area my son gets a package within about 3 days
  • Flat rate boxes or Priority boxes from the post office. Mine usually deliver in 3 days from Grand Rapids.
  • I use USPS - but I use a Regional Rate A box which ships from south of Detroit to MTU for just under $7. The regional boxes are not available at the post office but you can order them online for free along with the address labels.
  • Our post office in Petoskey has the regional boxes, just have to ask for them.
  • Just sent my 2# 4 oz box priority mail non flat rate box (smaller than a shoe box) from A2 and it was $9.75
  •  I use USPS. Usually it's the same price for 2-day priority as it is for regular.
  • We sent a package yesterday through UPS. Never again. It was over $20.00. We didn't even send it next day or anything. It was a medium size rubbermaid container with some candy and stuff for Easter. USPS is the way to go.
  • You should really look into the regional rate boxes. The rate B box is only slightly smaller than the flat rate box and can be used for up to 20 lbs - for a flat rate of $8.75. (Box C goes up to 25 lbs). These are just a cheaper priority box because the weight limit is lower.

Mailing Food

  • See the Birthday page for places that will deliver cakes, cookies and pies
  •  I just sent cookies to my son in the package I just sent on Monday, he got his package this afternoon but didn't get a chance to open it yet because today is his busy day with classes. I put them in a small box, layered with parchment paper between since they were frosted and then put that in the bigger box that I sent. I have heard people saying you can send them in pringles containers as well. I've also sent homemade chex mix (one of my son's faves, lol) in a gallon ziplock bag, and then in the box. That did ok.
  • Cookies go in a ziplock baggie, the unfrosted cake is wrapped in waxed paper then saran wrap. (cuz it's a weird shape). Bubble wrap any open spaces. I ship it USPS, send her the tracking number, and tell her the expected arrival date, as she doesn't check her mailbox regularly.
  • My sons roommate gets cookies in Pringle cans.
