Michigan Tech has a list on their website:   http://www.mtu.edu/admissions/visit/lodging/

Here are some places MTU parents recommend:

Houghton

Super 8 Motel "we love staying at the Super 8 right on the water with very reasonable prices and very close to MTU" "No elevator....so be mindful to get a ground floor room if you have accessibility concerns"  I recently stayed at the Super 8 and remember seeing a sign that they don't allow pets there.

Quality Inn   King rooms on the 4th and 5th floors, they have big picture windows that overlook the Portage and the town. The place is a little quirky, but right in town and right across the street from the Ambassador

Hampton Inn and Suites Houghton - on Shelden behind the gas station on the east end of town; formerly the Magnuson Franklin Square Inn.

Holiday Inn Express  "Accepts pets"

Country Inn and Suites "Clean, MTU rate, Carlson Club earns points for free nights, free breakfast, love the staff."

The Vault Hotel  The Vault Hotel - Upscale rooms in downtown building.

Independence Stay - hotel and long-term suites "up the hill" near Walmart

On Campus - Memorial Union Guest Rooms

http://www.mtu.edu/memorialunion/services/guest-rooms/

A parent asked about staying in one of the rooms at the Memorial Union. My exchange student last year and I decided on Wednesday the last weekend in January to visit my son  that Friday.  The nearby hotels were fully booked.  All 4 rooms at the Union were available and we were able to reserve the one that was a queen suite which had a bedroom and a living room/dining area for $95.  Minus:  rooms were very spartan  (equivalent to a low grade motel), no amenities/front desk-we picked up the room key at Public Safety, water for shower was barely lukewarm.  Plus:  location (center of campus), rooms were clean, quiet (no kids running up and down the halls like at motels that have swimming pools).  Also, no groups were using the banquet rooms that evening.

Summary:  not my first choice for places to stay, but I wouldn't shy away from staying there again.

Here is a pic of the mini fridge and microwave. This is the standard Queen.  They also have a Queen suite  and an Executive Suite too.

Hancock

Ramada Inn

Calumet - Don't overlook Calumet as a place to stay.  It's a nice drive to and from campus.

AmericInn  "Nice and clean place and a short drive back to campus"

Trailside Lodge  "Smaller place that was recently remodeled.  Easy access to snow mobile trails."
