Punching well above its weight in the arts and culture arena, Kitchener is home to THEMUSEUM, easily one of the best museums in Ontario, if not Canada. Engaging, vibrant, and innovative, THEMUSEUM does a top notch job of attracting support at international and local levels.
Who Should Go
Children's romping, laughter, button-pressing, wheel-turning squeaking beeping glory tends to rule this place, making for a lively atmosphere that's ideal for families, BUT, don't let that stop you from checking in regularly on their upcoming exhibitions. There's a good deal of intellectually-meaty, topical material geared to adults, too. At the time of writing, Yoko Ono had an exhibition here, showing some of her work and inviting visitors to participate in creative acts and leave their mark. Warhol's Factory was popular, as was RAM (Rethinking Art and Machine). Children's one-day events and special exhibitions run concurrently. Check out their website for a list of present and past attractions.
History
THEMUSEUM is a rebranding of the Waterloo Region Children's Museum. The building was Goudies department store, the largest independently owned department store in Southwestern Ontario at the time.
