The Tannery District is a reclaimed factory building in downtown Kitchener, now used by various tech and artisan companies. It was called the Tannery District by the developer, but some question the use of the term district as it was necessary to clear almost an entire block to provide surface parking for the development.
History
Originally built in the 1850s [exact date?] as the Lang leather tannery, the building hosted a variety of tenants, and by 2007 was acquired by CADAN and redeveloped. It was acquired by Allied Properties Real Estate Investment Trust for $61.75 million in May, 2012.
Currently the building markets itself to information and technology companies, including various shops and stores that are accessible from street level.
