Welcome to the new LocalWiki region for Lexington, NC!

Lexington, North Carolina is a small city in the center of the state, settled in between Winston-Salem and Charlotte. Known for its annual Barbecue Festival, the population was estimated at just above 19,000 by the United States Census Bureau. 

Attractions:

The arts are thriving in Lexington! Stop by The Bob Timberlake Gallery and MuseumDempsey's Place or Missions Pottery to check out the local art scene.

Lexington's incorporation as a city in 1828 makes it the home of several North Carolina historical attractions. Visitors can visit the Davidson County Historical Museum, located inside the Court House on Main Street, the numerous Civil War Trail Markers located throughout the city (check out this map to visit them all), or the Lexington Candy Factory for a taste of the city's history. 

The city is also home to several popular wineries, most notably Childress Vineyards and Weathervane Winery

Lexington Style Barbecue is known worldwide, and what better place to try it than in the city itself? Check out Bar-B-Q Center, Lexington Barbecue and Smiley's Barbecue and see for yourself! While you're at it, walk around the city and visit the famous Pigs in the City art initiative around Main Street in downtown.

Richard Childress Racing is also located in Lexington. NASCAR fans can visit the Richard Childress Racing Museum to learn more about their favorite drivers.
