The Presque Isle Power Plant is a coal-fired electric generating plant located in Marquette near Presque Isle on the shore of Lake Superior. The plant has 7 active generating units with a total net generating capacity of 431 Megawatts. This plant has two smokestacks 400 and 410 feet in height and was built in 1955 by the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company. It is currently operated by We Energies.

The SSR agreements were first made possible through 2004 tariff proceedings but none were instituted until late 2012. Currently plants running under SSR agreements include the Presque Isle plant in Marquette, Michigan; Consumer Energy’s plant in Gaylord, Michigan; and plants in Escanaba and White Pine, Michigan.

MARQUETTE - We Energies has filed a request with its regional transmission organization to suspend operations at the Presque Isle Power Plant. The request comes just weeks after Cliffs Natural Resources announced it would switch electric suppliers for the Empire and Tilden mines, shifting from We Energies to Chicago-based Integrys Energy Services Inc.
