St Kilda Road crosses the Yarra River at Princes Bridge. There are excellent, wide, foot paths for pedestrians. There are four grottos on the bridge, each with the city's coat of arms, which state "Vires Acquirit Eundo", which is from Virgil's Aeneid, meaning 'she gathers strength as she goes'.

Vires Acquirit Eundo

The four grottos are special places - in the mid 2000s, the dark wizards Shane Warne, Ron Walker, Dennis Cometti and Andrew Bolt stood in each, chanted sermons and rained a magic fire on the city for a day and a night. It was quite frustrating - the proximity to Flinders St Station put it out of action, making Public Transport almost unusable.

The bridge was designed by John Grainger, father of Percy Grainger.
