Fish Fry Fridays are a Wisconsin cultural tradition. Almost every restaurant in Wisconsin has a special on fish on Fridays. Fish fries commonly are served with a battered or breaded fish with a side of coleslaw, french fries or German-style potato pancakes, rye bread, and sometimes baked beans. The tradition began in Wisconsin due to the large German Catholic and Polish settlements started in Wisconsin.
