This page is for new wiki community members to help you get started. Here are some suggestions, based on our meeting, for how to get oriented and begin contributing:

1. Create an account and a user page. The ethic on Local Wiki is to be open about your identity. This is one way to reduce trolling and libelous content, by limiting anonymous posting.

2. Read about the Local Wiki project, standards of behavior, and copyright issues. It is important to understand that we are joining a larger project with some already established standards and ways of working. Also, there are some differences between Local Wiki and a project like Wikipedia. Check out

Reid Serozi (from the Raleigh LocalWiki) giving a short talk about how LocalWiki is different from Wikipedia:

3. Add a bit of content (links, a few sentences) to a page, or start a new page. You can check out this tutorial if you aren't sure how to started editing. Try a quick fix or add something about how you are planning to use the wiki with your class.
