What is Miami LocalWiki?

This is our beautiful backyard.We are a free website about Miami that anyone can edit. :) All of the content on this wiki has been built by contributors.

Miami LocalWiki is a wiki all about Miami. It's not a wiki like Wikipedia. We can put whatever we want here.

We are a part of the nonprofit LocalWiki network of wikis for towns and cities all around the world.

Who is behind this project?

There isn't an official group that runs Miami LocalWiki. Some volunteers meet up in person and edit the wiki. Other volunteers have never met anyone in person, but have contributed lots of valuable knowledge to the wiki. You can see the list of all of our users, but since people can also edit anonymously, it's hard to know exactly how many people have contributed to the wiki.

Although Miami LocalWiki is volunteer-run, it is one of many community wikis in the LocalWiki network. LocalWiki is a nonprofit that is working to grow a grassroots effort to collect, share and open the world’s local knowledge.

Miami LocalWiki was started in 2014.

Are you serious that anyone can edit pages?

Editing at Code for Miami, which meets at The Lab on Monday nights.Yes. You don't need to make an account to edit. Just hit "edit" on any entry and start typing. Search for pages in the search box to look for an entry you'd like to contribute to. If the entry doesn't exist yet, you can create it. Check the LocalWiki guide if you need help editing.

What do you think people should know about Miami? Whatever it is, you can add it here.

Miami is changing fast. It would be interesting to hear descriptions of these changes (Brickell Ave, and other neighborhoods perhaps).
