To help improve public transit and traffic congestion along Hurontario Street from Port Credit up to Main Street in downtown Brampton, the two cities are working toward building a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system. LRT is a transportation system based on electrically powered trains.

The LRT system is intended to be a means of economic and residential development, and improved quality of life throughout Mississauga and Brampton.

During key stages of the project, there will be at least three Public Information Centres (PICs) in Mississauga and three PICs in Brampton to inform the public of the design progress, and seek feedback at key decision points.
