A Roundabout is an intersection at which all traffic circulates counter-clockwise, to the right island. Entering vehicles and cyclists must yield to pedestrians and all traffic already in the roundabout.
Approaching and Entering
- Slow down when approaching the roundabout.
- If on a bicycle, merge with the line of cars and stay in line until your exit.
- Yield to pedestrians.
- Yield to all those already in the roundabout before entering; circulating traffic has the right of way.
- Never enter the roundabout directly to the right of a vehicle already in it, even if there are two lanes; that vehicle may be exiting before you!
- Merge with the traffic in the roundabout when safe, continue counter-clockwise
Exiting
- Signal a right turn as you approach your exit point
- Don't change lanes within the roundabout. Exit from the lane you entered, waiting for a gap if needed.
- Yield to pedestrians and be prepared to stop

The Downtown21 Master Plan includes building further roundabouts on Duke of York Boulevard and Rathburn Road.
In the early 2000s, the city experimented with a different roundabout design on newly-built streets in Churchill Meadows. This design proved unsafe because of the overly wide approaches, missing centre islands, and crosswalks located too close to the circle. Six of these roundabouts were built and three are still in use (the other three are now all-way stops.) The two on Churchill Meadows Blvd were retrofitted in 2013 with the signage and pavement markings used at the newer roundabouts.
