Woodland Tree Removal within Shelby Park

Trees located within the woodland of Shelby Park have declined or died due to a combination of extreme drought, Dutch Elm and Ash yellows disease. Due to the structural integrity of the trees, and to alleviate potential hazard situations, all trees within the fenced area will be removed, commencing the week of February 18th 2008.

In order to ensure public safety, the pedestrian walkways located on the west side of the woodland and leading to Shelby Crescent will be closed periodically during the tree removal process.

Plans are being developed to replant the original sites, and expand the woodland south to Rathburn Road. Utilizing a variety of trees suited to site speceific conditions, the replanting will commence in 2008 and be completed in 2009.
