Stuffed Animals

Animal Beacons of Light

Animal Beacons of Light is a charitable organization founded by Ellen Henson, a Monta Loma resident. The purpose of the project is to take in new or gently used soft stuffed animals; clean and then energize them with the energies of love, joy, comfort and Reiki; and gift them to children of all ages around the world. These stuffed animals are distributed by volunteers to a wide variety of places. For example: orphanages, nursing homes, shelters, refuge camps, those recovering from trauma, abuse, war or poverty - anywhere a child-at-heart needs love and a companion to hold and share their dreams and concerns with. To date over 75,000 stuffed animals have been sent to 60 countries around the world uplifting the lives of over 125,000 recipients.

We invite volunteers for many functions: collecting animals for donation; transporting them at various stages of the process; cleaning them; storing them; donating cleaning supplies, shipping expenses, boxes, ribbon and many other roles.

If you have stuffed animals to donate, please contact us for drop off locations around the greater San Francisco Bay Area, including one in the Monta Loma neighborhood, or the address of where to send them if you live further afield.

If you are traveling, inside the USA or internationally, let us know how many of our energized stuffies you would like to take with you to distribute.

Any questions, please contact Jenise Dormann at [email protected] or 650-954-8443.

I requested info about battered women's shelters where I could donate clothes and things. These are the responses I got:

Support Network for Battered Women (several people recommended this)
1257 Tasman Drive, Suite C
Sunnyvale 94089
408-541-6100

The Ecumenical Council on Hunger in EPA is a very good place to donate. They will give you a receipt. The clothing goes to families as well as homeless people. They have a web site.

Donating Household Goods, Food or Other Items

Most of the families and individuals who come to Shelter Network arrive with almost nothing and depend on donations for household goods, food, and other necessities. Your donation will make a real difference in the everyday lives of homeless children, parents, and single adults.
