Comcast

Not thrilled with the upload speed, but otherwise it works just fine so far after 3 weeks of use.
Here are some speed tests:

REngelmann

SBC now AT&T Yahoo! DSL

It works very well and is easy to set up and maintain. However, I am growing more and more jealous of friends bragging about the speed of cable. 3+Mb/sec. is pretty cool, but will never happen on DSL.

We've had SBC for the last 3 years. Very reliable so far. Uplink speed is about 1.3 Mb/s We had cable before, but switch because SBC was much cheaper.

Looking into switching to AT&T:

very happy. speed as quoted (I have 6 M bit down) and about 1 outage every 1-2 years.

We've had DSL/ATT forever... never had anyone else. They have been reliable and only a few outtages.
Speed is fast enough for us, though there may be a super fast speed now available.
I don't think we have had as many issues as neighbors who have Comcast.

Don't know if ATT/DSL is the cheapest though. Comcast offers some good deals.

We have AT&T DSL. We aren't that into speed and haven't checked it lately. We are at the outer edges and cannot get the fastest rated DSL. That said, it has been relatively stable and hasn't gone out on us very much. Most of the time we cannot get to the Internet we just re-power cycle the DSL modem and we get connected back up again.

The annoying thing is that have us set up on one bill for both our DSL line and our main house land line. My husband takes care of the bill and he has a calendar reminder on the computer for him to pay the bill on time via the internet. We often get letters claiming that they are going to disconnect everything even though it is the day that it is supposed to be due. So far he just pays it and nothing happens but it is annoying to receive the letter on the due date.

It works fine, although as I understand it, cable is
faster. We don't have cable, so there's no point for
us in trying. You will receive a home installation kit
to get things up and running. Fees can be as low as
$10 per month, under a special FCC deal.

I pay for 'limited' speed, but usually get 1.2Mbps.
You can check your speed with www.2wire.com/speedmeter

Earthlink

Eggi 6/24/07: I have had Earthilink for years but I cannot get the promised speeds. My speed is supposed to be > 2 Mbps but the highest I can get is 800kbps bandwidth average. Now I'm looking into switching to AT&T.

Speakeasy

Works with Covad for circuit provisioning. Good phone service for technical problems. Provides "dry line" (no-dial-tone) service with VoIP.

DSLEXTREME

Cheaper and faster than any of the above mentioned and I've tried them all...LOL
I agree with DSL Extreme. Can get speeds in excess of 4Mb/s, can get cheap service, and *excellent* tech support - they can make SBC fix things they would rather ignore.

Covad

Had Covad ADSL service on Adele for 4 years now, and it generally works fine. The two major outages we've had have both been courtesy of AT&T (who provides the underlying copper). In one case their borking with the wiring at the corner box (Adele/Thomspon) burned out our router, requiring a new one that they did NOT pay for.
