Bowman Lake is a reservoir located a 1.5-hour drive northeast from Nevada City, north of Grouse Ridge. It is a 2-hour drive from Reno, a 2.25-hour drive from Sacramento or Yuba City, or a 3-hour drive from Chico. Its elevation is 5,558 feet.

Two smaller lakes located slightly northwest of Bowman Lake: Weaver Lake and McMurray Lake.
