Truckee serves as a midway point between the desolate miserable desert of Reno, Nevada and the lush green paradise of Grass Valley/ Nevada City. At roughly 7000 ft. altitude, Truckee is home to several beautiful ski resorts, clean clear (and cold) lakes and rivers, and a hearty population of pine trees and mountain people. Visit in the summer for rock climbing, hiking in the forest, or visiting any of its many local historical sites. Visit in the winter for skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. And be sure to visit historic downtown Truckee for its many fine restaurants and gift shops, open year round.
