Canfield's Swamp is the historical name of the area of Brookside near Rhoton Brook, north and south of Flax Hill Road. The name dates back at least as early as 1733, in reference to the north side belonging to Ebenezer Canfield. The name dates back at least as early as 1710, in reference to the south side belonging to Samuel Canfield. ¹
