Egypt is the historical name of the area in the Woods Pond neighborhood near the intersection of St. Mary's Lane and East Rocks Road. The name dates back at least to the 19th Century. The name is said to be derived from the common saying of the time: "as dark as Egypt." ¹See also Woods Pond.
