Thatchers Mill (named after Josiah Thatcher as early 1740, also Whitneys Mill after Henry Whitney as early as 1784) is the historical name of a mill which stood at the current site of Freese Park on the east side of the Norwalk River by the Falls just north of Wall Street. The name dates back at least as early as 1665. Thatchers Mill Pond was a pond formed by Thatchers Mill Dam in this same area. 1
