1200 Lakeshore

 

1200 Lakeshore is a luxury apartment building located on the south shore of Lake Merritt, in Oakland California.

Constructed between 1964 and 1967, the building has 26 floors, 173 units, and approximately 500 residents.   At 325 feet, it is among the tallest buildings in the Lake Merritt area.

It is notable for some of its previous residents:

  • Candice Bergen, winner of five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards for her eleven seasons as the title character on the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown
  • Huey Newton, founder of the Black Panther Party, who occupied the top floor penthouse
  • Earl "Fatha" Hines, famed jazz pianist and bandleader
  • Rick Barry of the Oakland Oaks and SF Warriors, and his family 1
  • Stephen "Steph" Curry, a six-time NBA All-Star and player for the Golden State Warriors
  • Stephen Kerr, eight-time NBA champion and coach for the Golden State Warriors
  • Janet Napolitano, former Governor of Arizona, Secretary of Homeland Security, and President of the University of California
