A Journey of Promise is a large mural covering three walls of the staircase in the African American Museum and Library of Oakland (AAMLO). It was created in 2003 by Daniel Galvez and Patricia A. Montgomery, and features various noted African Americans including:

It also includes images from history, including a black "Rosie the Riveter" and a scene recalling the Port Chicago disaster. The images are "interwoven with areas of textile pattern incorporating the colors and design elements of traditional and contemporary African American quilts." 1

The authors of The Pullman Porters and West Oakland, Thomas and Wilma Tramble, said the mural was an inspiration to them to move forward with writing the story of the Pullman Porters.
