Afrikatown is a garden and outdoor community center on a vacant lot adjacent to Qilombo. It was created to grow food, teach permaculture skills, and provide outdoor community space primarily for people of the African diaspora. Afrikatown was founded without a lease or permission from the owners of the lot.

The owners, Sullivan Real Estate, are putting the property up for sale and attempted to bulldoze the garden but were stopped by the people who are unlawfully occupying the land. The owners then filed a writ of trespass with the City of Oakland in order to enable the Oakland Police Department to assist in evicting the unlawful users of their property.

They are currently (Mar 2015) on eviction defense and are calling for people to come hold the space. See here for more info.

They have a large mural that says "Welcome to Afrikatown"
