Centennial House was a hotel in West Oakland at the corner of 7th Street (then Railroad Avenue) at Cedar Street (where I-880 is now).
"If a woman (or a family for that matter) chose to rent space in a purpose-built hotel, there was either the genteel Centennial House or the well-regarded Railroad Exchange Hotel; women rarely sought lodging at the neighborhood's rougher establishments." 1
