This article refers to development of the previously abandoned Central Train Station on 16th Street.

The redevelopment of the 29 acre Central Station located in West Oakland is slated for completion in 2013.  Central Station is projected to provide over 1,000 new apartments and homes to the area which has sharply declined following the devastating Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.

In addition to residential housing, there will be stores, parks and other community services breathing new life into the surrounding neighborhood.  There are also plans to restore the historic train station which was shuttered in 1989 after the earthquake.
