On August 12, 2014, Oakland hired a Chief Resilience Officer. The position is to help the city and region prepare to bounce back from major crises and ongoing stresses.
Victoria Salinas was hired as the first Chief Resilience Officer.
According to Mayor Jean Quan, Oakland is the seventh city in the world to hire a Chief Resilience Officer under the Rockefeller Foundation's 100 Resilient Cities Initiative.
