From Oakland, Chinaka Hodge describes herself as "poet, educator, playwright and screenwriter". and has received national recognition for and publication of her work. Locally, she was honored by East Bay Express as "Best Poet" in 2008. Her screenplay, 700th & Int'l delves into the stories of two women in East Oakland.
She has worked extensively with Youth Speaks and its Living Word Project.
Her work has recently gotten a lot of media attention following the release of her music video on gentrification,.
