The Church of St. James the Apostle is an Episcopalian church located in Clinton, now commonly known as St. James Episcopal Church or Iglesia Episcopal de Santiago.
It was founded by William Ingraham Kip, Bishop of California, in 1858.
The original sanctuary (now the chapter house) is the oldest surviving church building in Oakland. It was built in 1860 at 17th Ave. x E.14th and later moved to its present location. (The oldest surviving building of any kind is 301 Broadway, built 1857.) The larger, present sanctuary dates from 1886.
The church was recognized as California Historical Landmark #694 on September 11, 1959, and as Oakland Designated Landmark #83 on May 29, 1984.
