Damon Slough is a marshy area where Lion Creek and Arroyo Viejo Creek drain into the estuary. The habitat supports a variety of birds and other wildlife, and provides a lovely background for part of the San Francisco Bay Trail.
Because it is downstream of two urban creeks and the Coliseum, and runs under I-880, it tends to get a lot of trash. It has been the site of a number of cleanups by Save the Bay and other groups.
Damon Slough is named for Nathaniel Damon, who in the 1850s built a boat landing (Damon's Landing) in the area. 1
