David Bercovich (January 5, 1878 – August 17, 1941) was a businessman in early Oakland.
Family
Bercovich was born January 5, 1878 in the Austro-Hungarian Empire to Bertha and Abraham Bercovich. The family arrived in Oakland on August 10, 1883. David was one of 10 children. He attended Oakland High School. David married Bettie Lefkowitz (Bercovich) on June 22, 1902, and they had three children: Lillian Bercovich (Berman), Avram Bercovich, and Mervin Bercovich. Lillian graduated from Oakland High School, and Avram from Oakland Tech.
Business
from 1924 Polk's directoryWhen David came of age in 1899, he joined his father Abraham Bercovich in the family scrap metal business. After Abraham's death in 1904, he continued the business with his brother-in-law until 1917. He then ran an auction house selling new and used furniture in the Clay Building until 1926; the business continued until at least 1928. [ see ref. 1 ; unclear how/if this was connected with Bercovich Furniture, started by his uncle Edward in 1906. ]

Bercovich was a member of the Fruitvale Lodge, No. 336, A. F. & A. M. (Ancient Free and Accepted Masons), Oakland Consistory, A. A. S. R. (Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite) and Aahmes Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. (better known as the Shriners). 1
