Oakland is divided in different ways depending on the purpose and agency. Unfortunately, many of these divisions are all called DISTRICTS!

OH MY GOD THIS TOPIC IS VERY CONFUSING!

For example, there are seven City Council districts, planning districts (which don't have an entry of their own yet, but there is an entry about planning in Oakland in general), redevelopment districts (again, no entry for the districts yet, but there's a general entry about redevelopment and a map of the districts themselves), school districts (no entry for the districts, just the whole school system), transit districts, police districts (sometimes called areas) and historic police districts (the police like to change them a lot), business improvement districts (BIDs), officially-designated historic districts, and historic districts in the sense of "places that used to be districts but aren't really districts anymore."

ALSO...

California State Assembly, Alameda County and BART also have districts that cut through Oakland. You can vote for them! (We should make pages for these things and their districts and how Oakland falls)
