Edward "Eddie" Joseph McGah (September 30, 1921 – September 30, 2002) was a MLB player from Oakland, and a minority owner of the Oakland Raiders from 1983 to 2002.
McGah was born in Oakland on September 30, 1921 to Edward Winston McGah and Lucille McGah.
After attending Roosevelt High School, McGah was sign by a Boston Red Sox scout. He played minor league baseball but tore some ligaments in his leg and returned to Oakland to recuperate. 4
In 1942 he joined the U.S. Navy , where he served until the end of WWII. He returned to baseball in 1946, but had limited play in the major leagues in 1946 and 1947. 5 He returned to the minors in 1948, where the Red Sox tried playing him at 3rd base because of his leg problems.
He retired from baseball in 1949, and worked in construction instead. "Also, contracting pays better than a .220 hitter in baseball." 2
Edward W. McGah was one of the general partners of the group formed to start the Oakland Raiders in 1960. Upon his death in 1983, Edward J. McGah inherited his father's share. Some sources say Edward J. was one of the original owners, but that isn't clear.
McGah died on his 81st birthday. 3 His parents are interred in St. Mary's Cemetery, but his final resting isn't known.
