On July 2nd, 2013 at 6pm, the City will be performing free marriages in honor of the overturning of Prop 8. The event is being hosted by Mayor Jean Quan and is part of Oakland's "Week of Weddings" (July 8-12, 2013). Couples need to come with a marriage certificate (see this link on how to obtain one).  Any couple, regardless of sexual orientation, is welcome. After the celebration there will be a short rally and celebration.

The event is at City Hall in Frank Ogawa Plaza.

Quan, Assemblyman Rob Bonta, Judge Tara Flanagan and other elected officials as well as clergy of various denominations will be officiating. There is no cost.

Reservations not required but the city is requesting that you email [email protected] so volunteers can plan.

Note: there is also a busy City Council Meeting scheduled for this time. Quan often misses meetings or attends only part of them, but rarely does she schedule something so blatantly at the same time as a meeting.
