The Grand Bakery is a long-time kosher bakery in Oakland. For many years it had its operations and retail location at 3264 Grand Avenue.
The predecessor to the Grand Bakery was The New Yorker Bakery, founded by Ernie and Anna Hollander in 1959. Ernie's obituary says that more than 1/2 of the baking he did was donated to Beth Jacob Congregation and other synagogues in Oakland. The Hollanders sold the bakery in the mid-1960s. 2
In 1986, Alan Finklestein and Eugene LeVee opened Grand Bakery at 3264 Grand Avenue, under the supervision of a rabbi. 3
Bob Jaffee took over in 1997. 4
Sam Tobis took over in 2017 after Bob Jaffe retired. Tobis moved production to 3033 MacArthur above The Food Mill. The baked goods are available at various Bay Area locations including The Food Mill. 1

3264 Grand Avenue
In the 1920s, 3264 Grand was an ice cream and candy shop called the Columbine.
In the 1930s, it was a restaurant called Loy's Creamery.
From 1939 to c.1944, 3264 Grand was Denk's Bakery.
From 1959 to c.1960, 3264 Grand was Little Paris Bakery.
In 1967, 3264 Grand was listed as the Strudel Palace Baked Goods.
The 1986 article about Grand Bakery mentions Rolly's Bakery which dated back to at least 1983. 3
