The Hill Castle Apartment Hotel is located at 1431 Jackson Street. The building was constructed for Henry G. Hill and his wife Ida Hill, and was designed by Miller and Warnecke. 1
In 1937, the building was owned by George E. Austin and Harry Kreiger. In November, they named Ethyl M. Bradshaw as the new resident manager. 2
A 1938 advertisement stated that the the rooms and apartments were "luxuriously furnished" for both transient and permanent guests. The hotel featured a sun deck, roof garden, 24-hour desk service, and daily maid service in the "atmosphere of your own home," with proximity to the lake and views of Lake Merritt. When constructed, the apartments included Simmons wall beds.
