The Hotel Royal was a 7-story hotel at San Pablo Avenue and Thomas L. Berkley Way, built in 1912-1913, and opening in January 1914. It was built by some of the heirs of Volney Moody, and leased to Julien Vayssie, who also ran the Hotel Shasta in San Francisco. The building was designed by William L. Woollett, who also designed the Realty Syndicate Building.
After some years as a residence hotel the building became increasingly run down, and the residents were evicted in 1998 because it was a health hazard. Alan Dones purchased the building and hoped to rehab it, but ultimately it was torn down in 2004 to make way for the Thomas L. Berkley Square development.
