Knox was born in Massachusetts and came to Oakland in 1852. He founded Field's Seminary. Knox lived at 533 Knox Place.2

 

Mrs Israel Knox has numerous recipes in an amazing cookbook from 1883, "Still Another: A Book of Recipes," put out by the Ladies Aid Society. More of her words may have survived for posterity than his.3
