John Walter ("J.W.") "Jack" Scammell (May 11, 1898 – September 23, 1985) was a builder and developer of several areas in Oakland, including Cordova and Castello Streets.
Scammell was born in Oakland to Walter Sancton Scammell and Lucy Amelia Hartman (Scammell), one of 3 children.
Jack married Mary Virginia Stewart (Scammell) (August 31, 1898 – February 8, 1979) in 1923, and they settled in Piedmont. They had 2 sons, John Walter Scammell, Jr. and Richard Elliott Scammell.
He also owned the Scammell Lumber Company at the foot of 9th Avenue.
