Joe Leonard Morgan (September 19, 1943 – October 11, 2020) was a retired MLB player who grew up in Oakland. He played for the Oakland Athletics and the San Francisco Giants at the end of his career, but is best known for his time with the Cincinnati Reds, where his teammates included Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Tony Pérez, Dave Concepción, and Ken Griffey.
Morgan was born in Texas, but grew up in Oakland from age 5, graduating from Castlemont High School in 1961. After high school, he played for American Legion East Oakland Post #471, 1 then played for Oakland City College (now Laney College), 2 before being signed by the Houston Colt .45s. 3
Morgan career had many highlights, including NL MVP in 1975 and 1976, World Series in 1975 and 1976, 5x Gold Glove winner, and 10x MLB All-Star.
