The Lake Royal Apartments are at 177 - 19th Street. The luxury 12-story building opened in 1959, and is cooperatively owned by the tenants.
The developer of the 55-unit building was Gerson Bakar. The steel framework was "topped out" in January 1959, and the first units shown to the public in April. The Lake Royal Corporation purchased the building in November. At that point about half of the units had been sold. 1Althea Knowlton was the first resident manager.
A 1961 ad stated there were only 10 units left. After 1961, there were occasional mentions in the newspaper, mostly in the society pages, and a few listings for resale of units.
