Lo Coco's is an institution. Their food has not changed with all the trendy new restaurants arriving on Piedmont Avenue and that's a good thing.

This is a family restaurant but totally fine for grownups who aren't super fond of kids. Standard pizza and pasta fare, and if you're lucky, they'll have the cannolli. Vegetarian- but not vegan- friendly. Anything with eggplant is recommended. Nice salads, too. Pizza is neither thick nor thin crust, but the edges are quite thick, like breadsticks. There are only about 10 tables, and they fill up- there's often a line. Cash or check only, so come prepared.

Lo Coco's is family-owned and they shut down for what feels like a month every summer so Maria et al can go to Italy (Sicily, I think).

Lo Coco's was the recipient of the East Bay Express Best Italian Restaurant Readers' Poll Award in 2014.
