The Marcus Foster Building served as Marcus Foster Middle School, then housed the offices for the OUSD Special Education Department (Programs for Exceptional Children). It was demolished in 2017 to make way for Oakland Unified School District's Central Kitchen.

It was designed by Black architects Robert Kennard and Art Silvers jointly with Mackinlay Winnacker McNeil and Associates of Oakland.

In 1978 this building was featured in the US Modernist Magazine as it was gaining recognition for its innovative open space design. Check out the link below and scroll down to pg.113 for an article and images of the building! 1
