Measure G is a parcel tax that was approved in 2008. 

According to the City:

The Oakland Unified School District voters on February 5, 2008 approved the “Oakland Unified School District 2008 Education Parcel Tax Measure or Measure “G”, in the amount of $195 per parcel, a continuation of Measure “E”, first adopted March 2, 2004, and made it permanent effective July 1, 2009.

The purposes of Measure “G” is:

•To attract and retain highly qualified teachers;

•To maintain courses that help students qualify for college;

•To maintain up-to-date textbooks and instructional materials;

•To keep class sizes small;

•To continue after-school academic programs, 

•To maintain school libraries; and

•To provide programs, including arts and music, that enhance student achievement.

Measure “G” exempts low-income taxpayers as defined.

Measure “G” ballot language provides for the establish an independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee to ensure that proceeds of the 2008 Education Parcel Tax are spent only for the purposes named in the measure.
