The Oakland Brick Company was at 476 - 10 St. run by Victor Lazare Fortin and his sons Damien and Octave. Damien left the firm after one year and became a travel agent. Victor and Octave subsequently operated under the name of Fortin & Son at 566 - 19th St. in Oakland, until Victor died August 14, 1914.

On June 12, 1863, Victor married Julie Remillard (Fortin), sister of the Remillard brothers. Besides Damien and Octave, they had two daughters, Marie Brigitte Fortin and Agnes Julie Fortin. The brick company had two schooners named the Marie and the Agnes, which were used to transport bricks from their plant in Marin County to Oakland and San Francisco.
