Gallo: First located on Fruitvale and International above gabardine store then at Miller library site, now on Pill hill. Hope and opportunity for youth for those who might not have done well at more traditional public high schools.
The month of May was declared the Emiliano Zapata Street Academy month.
Brooks was on the Urban League Board 15 years ago when they were affiliated with the academy.
McElhaney's eldest son was enrolled and she helped them develop their own foundation. Her daughter may have also gone there- unclear from what she said.
According to a speaker (not sure who) from the Academy, all three council members were very influential in the survival of the school.
