Main Floor Prayer HallOakland Islamic Center is a Muslim place of worship located at 515 31st St.

It was established in 1990 and serves a  Friday congregation of about 300. The capacity of the center is about 500.

They are open for all five daily prayers with a spacious prayer area for women. There is also an elevator, so this means it is somewhat accessible.

The congregation was originally Egyptian in a primarily African American neighborhood.

The masjid building with it minaret, Islamic Calligraphy and tiled walls initially contrasted with it Victorian architecture neighboring houses. However, the masjid itself has drawn new businesses to the area, namely Halal meat stores, restaurants and other local businesses catering to the Muslim Community. This in turn has diversified the congregation beyond its Egyptian Arabic roots.

OIC hosts nightly Iftar dinners and Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan.

Throughout the year, they have been hosting weekly Monday and Thursday evening Iftars as well.

Currently their fundraising includes intentions for constructing a Janaza washing facility for funeral services needed by members of the Muslim community.
