The Oakland Women's Rowing Club is a rowing club on Lake Merritt that's been around since 1916, the oldest women's rowing club in the U.S. They are sometimes called the "Ladies of the Lake" and row about the lake in a whaleboat. All of the women are in their 50s to 80s; most in their 60s and 70s. They wear one red star on the back of their uniforms for each year they've been rowing with the club, and a gold star for each 5 years.
Although they have no website and don't advertise, there is a two year waiting list to join. 1 They row every Wednesday morning.
