The Oakland Workers' Collective is a project of the Street Level Health Project. The nonprofit provides day labor at a requested rate of $15 for a minimum of 3 hours. If the job requires less than 3 hours, $45 is still requested.

The workers receive occupational health trainings and have access to personal protection equipment. They aren't eligible to take out insurance because they're only connecting workers to employers, but renter's or homeowner's insurance may cover the work.

The service here is very good and highly recommended. After your initial session with a worker, if you choose to use the service again, you can choose your method of contact. I prefer text message and have found the coordinator to be very helpful and timely. My employee/laborer/friend is very busy, but we have worked out a date for our next project. The service is also very honest about what skills each labor does and doesn't have so you will be matched appropriately.
